For the past few months, I’ve been having the same nightmare over and over again. I’ve tried everything before sleep, searching for its cause, yet the same dream keeps returning. Its impact bleeds into reality, I wake up exhausted, my head aching, and far too often with a nosebleed. I keep wondering what triggers it, and what purpose it serves. I don’t know who to tell this to, so I pour it all into my animation instead

What is shown in this animation is a combination of images I see in my dreams, my assumptions about what causes them, and what I do in response. I see the same person, with the same rope, doing the same actions over and over again, my assumption of guilt, being blamed, anger and loneliness. What I do in response is pray. I portray everything as entangled, reflecting how it feels to me.
However, the entwined tree forms the gesture of someone praying. And the large eye? Yes, that eye… I feel it has returned, watching me as if stripping me bare, telling me that I am the cause of all these bad things.
process.
I created this animation using frame-by-frame animation with a small combination of motion. The rough animation was done in Callipeg, while the cleanup and coloring were done in Procreate Dreams. I then added the final touches in After Effects. After Effects was also used for the particle effects, using Particular.
